Resin Bound ‘How to’ DIY Video Hits 100,000 Views!

We first decided to make a ‘How to’ video for resin bound installations to help our existing customers avoid some of the common stumbling blocks associated with installing a resin drive. We didn’t realise just how many people would benefit from the video, now viewed over 100,000 times on Youtube alone, with another 100,000 views on other platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

We broke down the most common mistakes into the following:

  • Incorrect preparation – not ensuring the surface is clean and dry
  • Miscalculation of area, usually leading to laying the resin bound system too thin or too thick
  • The biggest by far being incorrect mixing technique
  • And finally, incorrect application technique

Here you can see Ben applying the gas torch to the wet concrete, to help ensure the surface has no sitting water upon application. Our resin bound system can withstand a damp surface, but the more dry the better.

Here’s the short video we created just showing the correct preparation instructions:

Now, we’re on to the mixing process. In this photo you can see Ben mixing one of our small kits. These are specially made 26kg kits, designed to be easily mixed using a drill and paddle. They cost a little more per m2, but it does save on hiring the mixer and additional people to help with the installation. Anything up to 15m2 we recommend using our small Resinset resin bound kits.

Here we see the 107kg kits in action, being mixed with a large pan forced action mixer. Resin bound screeds should always be mixed using a large pan forced action mixer, here we are using a Creteangle.

On to the application process! We always recommend finishing using a steel trowel, so best close up the surface preventing stones from chipping away in the future.

And here you have the finished project! The happy customer even used some of the resin bound to create a tree pit feature in their front garden.
